LPM Community:

I currently use the general Microsoft Office
Applications
(word, excel, outlook, power point) for my law office
needs
and would like to get a Law Office Specific
application
(Prolaw / Amicus Attorney) but that takes Server
Networking to be truly effective, which we don't have.
So there are some additional factors to consider.
Any advice from the gallery on which one works well
and why?

E-discovery’s rapid growth and fast-movingfuture

Check out this article about the e-discovery industry’s rapid growth and lucrative future.

E-Discovery Blog

In light of our upcoming joint presentation on February 16, 2006 with the Civil Law Committee regarding electronic discovery, I thought our members might like to take a look at a Blog on the subject. This is a good one: http://www.ediscoverylaw.com/.

Web-Based Law Office Management

This article in Law Office Computing is at once timely and (for me anyway) hilarious. Let me explain: Timely, because the article talks about application service providers (ASP’s) — which deliver your everyday software and information systems over the Internet. This means that your Client data and office software is no longer safely tucked into your computer, your server, or even your IT guy’s server; it is now who-knows-where being served up to wherever you happen to be. And these applications are going to take over. Hilarious, because I was looking into web-based law office solutions 5 years ago, but for perfectly logical and boring reasons like Internet connection speeds, the ease of finding connections, data storage and security advances, the amount of data that can be stored in a single place, and the average life-span of office software, ASP’s now look like a great idea whereas 5 years ago they were no more than the fevered dreams of a would-be dot.com billionaire-lawyer-fireman-astronaut (what can I say, I had a vivid imagination). Welcome to the party, pal. Ed. Note: FYI, I use Prolaw software from Thomson-Elite as my specialized law office management software, and the MS office programs (2003 editions) for everything else. I have also used or am familiar with all current applications on the market. Member Poll Question: What office software applications do you use? Which ones are law office specific (like Prolaw) and which ones are general (like Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)?

LPM Review on CD, by MP3, etc.

Take a look at this way to listen to law practice management information via media such as a CD, MP3 file, etc. Podcast anyone? This guy did: see for yourself. Now he’s turned his legal insight into millions in cash and prizes! You can to by following these simple steps:
(1) Podcast
(2) Make a million
(3) Repeat
NOTE: Are you podcasting yet? For heaven’s sake, why haven’t you started!? Hurry up, it’s the latest thing … oh, sorry you waited too long. It was hip for that split second, but now it’s passee like wearing skinny ties or doing the Safety Dance. Oh well, maybe next year you’ll learn to … oh, who are we kidding? Just give it up now and join the Law and Laxatives Committee. Ask our bar liaison, Eric Delgado, for details.
